Ok, our last month with a one year old. Here are a couple things Nolan has been doing.
He is still loving basketball and construction stuff. He could probably just play with those two things all day long.
The other day we were doing his animal noises. I would ask, what does a cow say, he would say moo, etc. I asked him what does a boy say and he thought about it for a second, then yelled “Go Broncos!”
His newest question is “Okay??” He says it if I bump my arm and say ow. He says it so cute and concerned. He also says it to himself if he gets hurt. He will ask “okay?” and then we will ask him, “are you ok?” and he will say yeah.
Nolan has started to sing the songs from his music class. He really really likes listening to the CD in the car. It might get old real fast.
He is stringing 4-5 words together. Things like, “Daddy, push swing, higher please.”
Oh that’s another thing, he has started saying Mommy and Daddy sometimes rather than Mama, Dada.
When he wakes up in the morning or especially from his nap, he likes to stay in his crib and play awhile. He gets really mad if you take him out too early. Here is a video of him playing a couple weeks ago. If it’s hard to understand him, here is what he is saying…
WAKE UP
higher
park
big hoop
little hoop
balls
wake up (x10)
timer
monster
bring buddy
shoot balls
throw football
only one football
Nolan says some of the cutest things. I have started a running list in my phone to help me remember them. Here are some…
Chris just got back from a weekend in Chicago. When I asked Nolan where Dad was he said “Chi-costco”
Nolan walked up to our kitty Sake laying on a chair. He said, “Sake, no hands. Paws!!”
We taught Nolan to turn his hand back and forth like Beyonce when he hears the “Single Ladies” song.
Every day when Chris goes to work and Nolan tells him “byyyyyyye.” If he asks for Dad during the day, I usually ask him back, “Where is Dad?” and he tells me, “work.” Except the other day when he busted out with “home depot.” He said it so matter of factly. Now he will often say that Dad is at home depot when he is not around. This is also usually followed by asking for a hot dog, you know because we got one there once about 6 months ago. This kid’s memory is ridiculous.
When he slam dunks the basketball he says “slammer jammer!”
If I tell him anything along the lines of “you’re a silly goose,” he will look at me so seriously and say “No, boy!” as if to say “Mom I’m not a goose, I’m a boy!”
My mom asked him if he had a good Easter about a week after it and he thought about it very seriously for about 10 seconds and then said, “Eggs!” We asked what was in the eggs and he got the biggest smile possible on his face and said “treats!”
Nolan was grabbing his hair and making scissor motions with his fingers. He told me, “My hair…too long!”
When Nolan has had the same lovie for a couple days, we tell him it’s dirty and he needs a new one. This had made him connect anything that is new means that the old one must be dirty. Today we had a new bottle of shampoo next to the empty one. He exclaims “new soap!” and then pointing to the old bottle says “dirty.”
He is growing up so fast. I feel like I need to soak in my last month of having a one year old.
Nolan is a little over 22 months now. He is growing up into such a fun, energetic and sweet little boy. Here are some of my favorite things he is doing right now.
Nolan’s two favorite things right now are basketball and construction equipment. He loves to “shoot hoops” and try to dribble, shoot, and dunk.
He is obsessed with construction stuff and can name a back hoe, scoop, excavator, steam roller, cherry picker, bulldozer and crane all by name. I didn’t even know what all these things were until we had to read to construction book. Every day. Many times. He really likes driving by all the construction going on in our neighborhood to watch. He usually says “man working” and likes to talk about all the dirt and digging. I think he asks to see backhoes every time we get in the car.
We started going to a music class. It’s ten weeks long and I would say that he likes it but doesn’t love it yet. He does like the CD of songs though and is starting to sing along to them in the car. He is such a smart little boy. After listening about 4-5 times to one of the songs about his ten little fingers, he now does all the hand motions for all ten parts of the song before we are even singing the next line.
Nolan is a total boy. He also likes to play soccer, football, anything in the dirt of that gets messy. Our friends daughter tried to get him to play dress up the other day and he would have no part of it. He seems to have outgrown his obsession with kitchen utensils.
He is talking up a storm. He is starting to put 3-4 words together but isn’t really talking sentences yet. Its more along the lines of “mama, here, play, backhoes?” We have had a lot of birthdays lately and he will say “appy birf-day to you!”
He definitely knows all his colors now and the other day he counted to six. But usually when I ask him to count he says “two free four.”
Nolan is getting better with his manners. He is pretty good about saying please and thank you, but still needs prompted sometimes. But its just so darn cute when he says it. He likes giving out high fives and hugs.
Here is Nolan hunting Easter eggs today at Grandma and Papa Taylor’s. You can see he is not much for a calm orderly search. It’s much more fun to fling his basket around. It a little hard to hear but he says “Mine…it’s broken” and then asked Missy to fix it. When Chris asked him what he needed to fix it, he says “screwdriver” (a screwdriver and tape can fix anything in Nolan’s mind). He is so funny and we love him so much!
Here is a video of our Stapleton Easter egg hunt. This video is just the 0-3 year old group. There was separate times for 4-6 and 7+ too. It was insane as you can see. I had no clue where Nolan and Chris were and only one parent was allowed in. Happy Easter everyone!
Nolan’s other best friend in Kenzy. She is sweet, playful, energetic and always very helpful with Nolan. They usually play 1-2 times a week. They really do love each other and it’s so sweet to see Nolan get so excited to be with her. In the video, I just walked in on them and they had gotten together in the chair like that to read a book all by themselves. It’s really cute about the 40 second mark with them laughing.
Hard to see their faces, but I love the silhouette.
